Sycamores and Stream - Plein Air Original Oil Painting
This piece is the largest plein air work I have ever done, completed entirely in the field in 2 sittings in February 2020. If you go up Rt 926 from the Ace Hardware in Pocopson PA, over the crest of the hill after the school you will see this scene down in the little valley on the right. I had been eyeing it for a few years, as I love how the stream winds through the landscape within a grove of sycamores, my favorite trees. Sycamores grow this beautiful mossy green on them, which is so gorgeous with the grey and white spotty bark.
I set up my easel literally a few feet from the road, on a very nice man's driveway who granted me permission. It was a cold, wet and grey two days in February, but I was determined to complete this painting in winter as I love the structure of the bare trees with the tiny hint of Spring green beginning to emerge from the banks.
I took some artistic license and removed the white farmhouse in the back, I had painted it in, but ended up preferring the piece without it.
